Bell & Howell Commuter II Portable Microfiche Reader

For sale- a Bell & Howell Microimagery Group Commuter II Portable Microfiche Reader as pictured. Manufactured by Micro Design, a division of Bell & Howell. Did not know that. I was going to speculate something similar since I just sold a Micro Design Portable II and the outer case and much of the internals are the same or similar. But the internal tag spells it all out.

As you can see the fiche reader works fine. Was surprised to find that the Commuter II offers dual magnification as part of the deal. The Micro Design branded unit did not, but the lens was interchangeable. These look to be essentially locked in. I don’t know what the magnification level is for either of them, but I have a picture of both high and low from the same fiche, so maybe that will give you an idea.

Comes with a 12 volt car cigarette lighter adaptor. Whether the battery would actually take a charge and be useable is another question entirely. I have probably had this thing for 15, maybe 20 years, it’s never been recharged in all that time. I assume the battery can be replaced, will leave that to you. Comes with the key to lock the case in case you want to keep something of value there. Brand new BRL lamp, installed it myself.
