Fit and installation

The Ixia Hardware and Reference Manual 5.60 (Table 18-1, p. 18-5) describes the LSM10G1-01 as a 1-port 10GE, single-slot, full-featured load module that requires a XENPAK or XFP adapter and a matching transceiver; Table 18-2 (p. 18-8) lists its connector options as XFP or XENPAK / X2.

Per the same manual (pp. 18-15 and 18-17), the carrier card inserts into the opening in the 10GE LSM module, slides along the guide rails until it connects, and is held by screws tightened no more than a quarter turn past flush. Load modules should be screwed down in the chassis before a carrier card is removed or installed. Carrier cards do not come with transceivers.

Testing: what we do, and to what standard

Ixia load modules are tested in our own lab, in an Ixia chassis, with a version-matched IxOS. Every port runs traffic at full line rate with 64-byte frames, the highest frame rate and the hardest case, on all ports at once. Error counters are zeroed at the start, monitoring is read-only, and the traffic runs undisturbed for a window long enough to prove the bit-error limit below statistically, not for a fixed time.

Ixia and Keysight publish no acceptance criteria for load modules, so we apply our own written standard, ZC-AC rev 2. Each criterion is benchmarked to IEEE 802.3 or RFC 1242/2544 and set tighter, so that a module we pass adds no measurable error, loss or rate deviation to the data its user collects. Where the industry sets no number, nothing is tolerated.

Our test reports state, for every section, the criterion, the value measured and the result, and print every error counter per port for the whole window. Where the Ixia software does not expose a reading (fan speed, supply voltage, optical DDM), the report says so; nothing is inferred. A unit that fails is diagnosed, not written off. Testing to this standard, with a signed written report, is available as a service.

Troubleshooting, repairs, and test plans

Troubleshooting and failure analysis. When a chassis or load module misbehaves (a card that will not enumerate, drops link, resets, or fails at start-up), we diagnose it from the evidence, down to the board:

1. Evidence first	We pull the IxServer logs from the chassis, including the boot record of the failing card. Every finding in our report traces to a log line or a numbered bench run.
2. Boot analysis	The failing card's start-up is compared step by step against a healthy initialization recorded on the same chassis model and IxOS with a known-good card of the same model: insertion, EEPROM identity, slot power, FPGA loads, port card enumeration, fabric training. The first step that goes missing localizes the fault.
3. Varied conditions	Cold boot against hot insert, repeated runs, and a check that the card reports the same identity every time; an identity that changes between runs is itself evidence of a damaged management path.
4. Hardware-level verification	We swap cards. With several hundred load modules and dozens of chassis in stock, a suspect slot, carrier board, port daughter card or chassis is confirmed by substituting a known-good part and re-running, one change per numbered run, and by retesting on an isolated chassis.
5. Root cause and report	Board-level attribution on multi-board assemblies, ranked root-cause hypotheses, and a written engineering failure report with an evidence index, the disposition and the next steps.

Repairs. We repair Ixia chassis and load modules in our lab, verify the repair against the same acceptance standard used for testing, and document the evidence, the cause, and what was done.

Resource library. We maintain a 600 GB Ixia resource library: platform reference guides and user manuals across IxOS releases, product compatibility matrices, and IxOS, IxNetwork and IxLoad software builds across versions. It lets us answer compatibility, configuration and version questions from the manufacturer's own documentation.

Test plans. We can build test plans to satisfy your engineering needs. We take what you test today (a manual procedure, a legacy Spirent or Xena configuration, or nothing yet), map it onto IxNetwork and IxLoad, work out the licences, modules and ports it needs, and quote each step before any work starts.
