About National Instruments (NI)

A Legacy of Innovation

National Instruments, now known as NI, was founded in 1976 by three ambitious engineers: James Truchard, Jeff Kodosky, and Bill Nowlin. Their vision was to revolutionize the way engineers and scientists work by connecting test instruments to computers. This innovative approach laid the foundation for NI's leadership in automated test and measurement systems.

Pioneering Virtual Instrumentation

In 1986, NI introduced LabVIEW, its flagship graphical development platform. This groundbreaking software transformed the industry by allowing users to create custom, virtual instruments using standard PCs. LabVIEW's impact has been compared to what spreadsheets did for financial analysis.

Growth and Global Reach

From its humble beginnings in a garage, NI has grown into a multinational corporation with a significant global presence. By 2022, the company was serving over 35,000 companies worldwide and generating revenues of US$1.66 billion. NI's products and services are now used across various industries, including automotive, aerospace, semiconductors, and telecommunications.
