About Technology

The ABB 5STP16F2800 Thyristor Module is a high-capacity phase-control semiconductor device engineered for precise regulation of large AC/DC power systems in demanding industrial and energy applications. Designed as a press-pack (hockey-puck) thyristor, it supports repetitive peak off-state voltages up to 2800V and average on-state current ratings around 1400–1500A, ensuring robust performance in high-power switching and controlled rectification environments. Built with advanced free-floating silicon technology, optimized low-loss conduction characteristics, and superior thermal cycling resistance, it enhances power density, operational efficiency, and long-term reliability under continuous heavy-load conditions. Its industrial-grade disc package enables efficient clamping, cooling integration, and dependable high-current operation in converter stacks and traction systems. Engineered for stable high-voltage switching, precise phase control, and exceptional durability, it is ideal for use in HVDC systems, traction drives, industrial rectifiers, soft starters, and large-scale power conversion applications.
