Description/Details

Vintage W.M. Welch Manufacturing Company three-dial resistance box for laboratory, classroom, and electrical experimentation.

This instrument allowed a selected amount of electrical resistance to be introduced into a circuit using the three rotary controls. It has two metal binding-post terminals, three numbered indicator windows, a black metal enclosure, and a perforated metal panel on the underside.

The original W.M. Welch manufacturer’s badge remains attached and identifies the company’s furniture factory and warehouse in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and its general offices and warehouse in Chicago.

Also included is an original Welch inspection ticket tied to one of the controls. This surviving paper tag is an especially interesting detail for collectors of antique scientific and educational equipment.

A handsome example suitable for a scientific-instrument collection, electrical-history display, industrial décor, classroom exhibit, or restoration project.

Dimensions

Approximately 8.5" wide x 4.25" deep x 4" tall. Please review the measurement photograph and other photos for proportions and additional dimensional details.

Condition

Vintage pre-owned condition with dust, scratches, scuffs, finish wear, discoloration, and areas of oxidation consistent with age and former laboratory use. The original inspection ticket has creases, staining, edge wear, and other age-related deterioration.

The controls turn, but the unit has not been electrically tested. Its internal completeness, accuracy, resistance range, and operating condition are unknown. It is being sold as an untested collectible or restoration item, with no guarantee of functionality.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description. Only the resistance box shown is included.
